ICTI-240 Blend and Flip: Creating A Student-Focused Classroom
About this course
Looking for a way to leverage digital content, media elements, and technology to engage learners? Both flipped and blended learning allow teachers to shift their focus from lecture-style delivery to exploring content in-depth through the application of understanding. These models allow more opportunities to focus on individual student needs and enable students to take ownership of their learning.
In this course, you will learn to identify important elements of both a flipped and blended classroom. You will also understand and apply this learning while creating a fully flipped or blended unit of study that includes digital resources and instructional elements.
What will I learn in this course?
Week 1: Flipping a Classroom
In contrast to a traditional classroom where students are first exposed to content by the teacher within the classroom, using a flipped classroom model allows students to be introduced to content outside the classroom. Then class time is used to apply key content and ideas students have gained from outside of class. This process engages students and allows for a more active learning experience. In this first module, you will identify the elements of a flipped classroom and flipped learning and take the first steps toward adopting a flipped model by creating multimedia presentation using digital tools.
Week 2: Blending a Classroom
Another instructional option that encourages students to take ownership of their learning and meets the needs of a variety of learners is blended learning. Blended learning combines a traditional classroom model with online learning elements allowing students to work at their own pace and ensure content mastery. In this module, you will examine several different blended models and discuss what a mixture of online activities and face-to-face classroom instruction might look like in your classroom.
Week 3: How to Create a Flipped/Blended Classroom
In both flipped and blended models, teachers utilize technology to share or create interactives, online textbooks or articles, web links/resources, and other multimedia elements to enhance instruction and learning. Employing these models in the classroom can be a challenge at first as they require the teacher to feel comfortable using, evaluating, and sharing technology resources with students. In this module, you will further explore the benefits of flipping or blending your instruction along with some of the available tools and resources to help you get started. You will complete the week by outlining a flipped or blended unit plan for your classroom.
Week 4: Implementing a Flipped/Blended Classroom Model
One of the most important elements of instruction is taking the time to evaluate whether the objectives have been met and whether or not students have accomplished their goals and mastered the content. In this final week, you will examine what defines success in a flipped or blended classroom as well as learn to locate and utilize some of the free resources available to assist you in successfully flipping or blending your classroom instruction. The course culminates by allowing you the opportunity to create a full flipped or blended unit of study for your classroom that includes digital resources and instructional elements.
